Johnny Unitas played professional football from 1956 through 1973, spending most of his career as the quarterback of the Baltimore Colts before finishing with the San Diego Chargers. He led Baltimore to NFL championships in 1958 and 1959 and became closely associated with the league’s growing national profile. Unitas was known for his strong arm, command of the offense, and calm performance in important games. He earned NFL Most Valuable Player honors in 1959, 1964, and 1967. A three-time NFL champion and longtime passing leader, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979. Unitas remains one of the most recognizable quarterbacks represented in vintage football-card collecting.
