About Jackie Robinson
Jackie Robinson was a pioneering Brooklyn Dodgers infielder who became the first Black player in the modern major leagues in 1947. His playing career combined historic significance with All-Star recognition, an MVP award, a World Series championship, and Hall of Fame honors.
Jackie Robinson (1919–1972) played for the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1947 through 1956, appearing primarily at second base. His major-league debut on April 15, 1947, ended the long-standing color barrier in modern Major League Baseball. Robinson earned National League Rookie of the Year recognition in 1947, won the National League Most Valuable Player Award in 1949, and helped Brooklyn capture the 1955 World Series. He was selected as an All-Star six times and was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962. Beyond his statistics, Robinson is remembered for enduring intense discrimination while helping change professional baseball and American public life. His uniform number 42 was retired throughout Major League Baseball in 1997.
