Yogi Berra was a durable Yankees catcher whose career included 10 World Series championships, three American League MVP Awards, and a place in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. He remained active in professional baseball from 1946 through 1965.
Lawrence Peter “Yogi” Berra became one of baseball’s defining catchers during a major-league career that stretched from 1946 to 1965. He spent most of his playing years with the New York Yankees, providing dependable defense, strong hitting, and leadership through one of the franchise’s most successful eras. Berra appeared in 14 World Series and helped the Yankees win 10 championships, a record total for a player at the time. He earned three American League MVP Awards and was selected for numerous All-Star teams. After his playing career, he also managed the Yankees and New York Mets. Berra was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972.
