About Zack Wheat
Zack Wheat was a durable left fielder who spent nearly his entire major-league career with Brooklyn. A steady hitter and respected defender, he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1959.
Zack Wheat played 18 major-league seasons from 1909 through 1927, with nearly all of that time spent in Brooklyn. Primarily a left fielder, he became one of the National League’s most dependable hitters and won the league batting title in 1914. Wheat combined consistent contact with enough power to remain a central part of Brooklyn’s lineup across several team eras, including the club’s years as the Superbas, Robins, and Dodgers. He finished his career with more than 2,800 hits and a .317 batting average. His longevity, production, and connection to Brooklyn made him one of the defining players of the franchise’s early history. Wheat was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1959.
