About James Worthy
James Worthy was a key Los Angeles Lakers forward during the franchise’s 1980s championship era. Known for his transition scoring and dependable postseason play, he finished his career as a three-time NBA champion and Hall of Famer.
James Worthy played his entire NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers after being selected first overall in the 1982 draft. A versatile small forward, he became an important part of the team’s fast-paced offense and helped the Lakers win three NBA championships. Worthy earned NBA All-Star recognition seven times and was named Finals MVP in 1988 after leading Los Angeles past Detroit. He remained with the Lakers through the 1993–94 season, completing a 12-year professional career. Known by the nickname “Big Game James,” Worthy was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003. His career is closely associated with the Lakers’ championship success during the 1980s.
